What the heck has ‘The 4-Hour Work Week’ by Tim Ferriss…
got to do with two ‘New Rich’ Hippies living in Coast Rica, I hear you ask!?!
Read on my friend!
However, before we go there…
Just in case you haven’t read The 4-Hour Work Week yet…
(if you haven’t by-the-way….go get yourself a copy!)
and you have no idea what it’s about, lets just quickly break it down…
As the title suggests…
‘The 4-Hour Hour Work Week: Escape the 9-5, Live Anywhere and Join the New Rich’
is about escaping the rat race, living (and working) from anywhere you want in the World, while joining the ranks of the ‘New Rich.’
To further define ‘Rat Race’…
it’s the ‘deferred’ live plan.
The traditional way of living your life…
the one most people (unfortunately) subscribe to.
It pretty much involves working for 40+ years of your life, in a job your probably don’t love, deferring any serious, sustained enjoyment until you can retire.
At which point you’re no longer in the prime of your life, and therefore probably aren’t physically capable of doing a lot of the things you would have loved to have done, anyway. And this pre-supposes that it’s financially viable for you to retire, once you reach ‘retirement age.’
Not to mention the fact that ‘official’ state retirement ages are ever increasing in the Western World, and as soon as all of the ‘baby-boomer’ generation have retired…
there won’t be enough money left in the pot to support them all anyway! Good plan! (I think not!)
The ‘New Rich’ dance to a different beat, however….
they have a different philosophy on life.
This growing band of savvy folk, are flipping the deferred live plan on it’s head, and truly living life now…..
not waiting until they are in their twilight years and can finally retire!
So how do they do this?
Well, that’s pretty much what The 4-Hour Work Week is about…
it’s about laying down the blueprint that Ferriss used, to be able to go from earning $40,000 a year working 80 hours a week in corporate America, to $40,000 a month working just 4 hours a week!
Sound good?
This ‘New Rich’ gameplan, is pretty much what this entire blog (this one your one right now!) is about.
This is what myself and my wife are working towards.
This is why I’m putting projectTHRIVE out there…
to be able to generate multiple streams of income while being able to live anywhere in the world we choose….
while inspiring others to do the same!
This is why we’re currently in the planning stages of a crazy ass trip, with our FOUR kids (and two dogs!), vagabonding across Europe on an extended road trip!
Then from there we’ll be heading to the U.S. to maybe travel some more, before becoming mountain dwelling ‘New Rich,’ living somewhat self sustainably in the Rockies somewhere (Boulder, CO is currently favourite – however alternate suggestions are welcome!), while taking off on further extended travel as and when we see fit.
Basically…
we’ll be ‘location independent’
living the ‘digital nomad’ lifestyle.
You can read a bit more about all this, as well as watch a video where I talk a bit more about it, on my about page.
Back to Tim Ferriss and The 4-Hour Work Week…
Ferriss talks about ‘Gold getting old’….
with Time & Mobility being the currency of the ‘new rich’…
the art & science of Lifestyle Design.
He also points out that most people who think that they would like to be millionaires, couldn’t really care less about the money, they would just love to live the millionaire lifestyle that the money provides….
exotic travel, ski chalets and the like.
He goes on to break it down throughout The 4-Hour Work Week by using the acronym D.E.A.L., and becoming a ‘dealmaker.’
D.E.A.L. standing for…
Definition…
Elimination…
Automation &
Liberation.
let’s not get into the nitty gritty of each of these here…
maybe in future posts…
We’ve still got our Costa Rica dwelling ‘New Rich’ Hippies to throw into the mix yet!
back to the 4-Hour Work Week shortly!
You need to take a look at this video of these two dudes…
who are a living testament to the viability of The 4-Hour Work Week…
and the ‘New Rich.’
Especially if you’re in the home-based business or internet/network marketing niche, as these two ‘hippies’ have put the concept of living the location independent’ lifestyle into practice, by being able to run their businesses from the mountains and beaches of Costa Rica.
You might be surprised to hear in the video…
that living a somewhat luxurious lifestyle in Costa Rica…
doesn’t cost as much as you might think.
In The 4-Hour Work Week…
Ferriss states that money is multiplied in practical value, by the number of W’s that you control…
this is also what Thriving Adventures and the ‘thrive tribe’ is all about for me…
as I’m on a mission to inspire people to be able to do..
What they want to do…
When they want to do it…
Wherever in the world they choose to do it from…
With Whoever they choose to do it with!
Ferriss also calls this…
The Freedom Multiplier.
If the prospect of controlling more of those W’s in your life appeals to you…
then you should definitely have a read of what projectTHRIVE is all about…
and find out more about…
As mentioned, I’ll pop down a couple more posts on some of the finer points of the D.E.A.L. process…
as outlined in The 4-Hour Work Week…
as soon as I’m done re-reading it.
So be sure to check back if they aren’t already written when you’re reading this!
Until then…
I hope this has triggered off some thoughts inside of your head about joining the ‘New Rich,’ potentially becoming location independent, and most definitely kicking the ‘deferred life-plan’ into touch…
it’s for the birds!
In adventure,
Lee
P.S. Make sure you watch the video of the ‘New Rich’ Hippy dudes in Costa Rica…
and check out why I’m on an absolute mission with projectTHRIVE.
